2024 Business Insider Freelance Lifestyle Pitches. Business Insider is looking for freelance writers to work on lifestyle stories such as Travel Essays, Travel Listicles, Culture Shock/Moving Essays, Food Rankings, and Interior Design. ($200 for a 600-word piece)

Writing contests

The Bedford Competition is a nonprofit organization that hosts annual international short story and poetry competitions for individuals aged 17 and older. With total prizes amounting to £4,600, winning and shortlisted entries are published in an anthology. The main prizes for the Short Story and Poetry Competition include £1,500 for first place, £300 for second, and £200 for third.

Nightbook Boats Poetry Prize. The winning poet(s) will receive a $1,000 advance, a standard royalty contract, and 25 complimentary copies of the published book. This prize is open to any poet writing in English, and previous book publication does not affect eligibility. Submissions must be a minimum of 48 pages, paginated, with no more than one poem per page. There is a $28 entry fee, and the deadline is November 15, 2024.
